The world of gaming can be an intense and immersive experience, but for many women, it’s also a constant battle against online abuse. Sky Broadband and Guild Esports launched a campaign to shed light on the shocking levels of harassment faced by women gamers every day. Based on new research that reveals nearly half of women gamers in the UK have experienced online abuse, the campaign aims to raise awareness and create change within the gaming community.
Cookie Studio brought me on board to help bring this powerful campaign to life. As the motion lead, I was responsible for creating the rig and integrating MoCap data for the high-intensity, immersive experience that highlights the terrifying harassment women gamers face. Working closely with Cookie Studio, we developed a seamless, emotionally charged experience that evolved from a neutral gaming environment to one that reflects the disturbing reality many women endure. The project is intentionally disturbing, yet necessary, as it uses technology to immerse players in the tension and aggression that can quickly escalate in online gaming spaces.
The impact of this project extends beyond the screen, using MoCap and motion design to evoke empathy and change the conversation around online abuse. It was an honour to be part of such a meaningful campaign that not only showcases the realities of abuse but also gives a voice to those who need to be heard. Working with Guild Esports and Cookie Studio was a collaborative experience that pushed the boundaries of storytelling and motion design in an important, real-world context.
Bespoke Rig
Working with Rokoko and the character rig in C4D, I created custom elements designed for seamless handoff to other artists, ensuring consistency throughout the project.
